Happy Holiday!

Oct 2011    The team closed out the 2011 season much like most of the season, a mechanical issue that forced Jesse to pull in before the end of the feature finishing outside of the top ten.

As the team looks forward to 2012, we are in the hunt for additional sponsorship to help with plans for the upcoming season.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Sponsors for 2011, hope to see you all back on the car in 2012. In addition, thanks to our great fans, the entire team who prepares the car each week with Jesse and the Florence Speedway entire staff.

We will keep you updated as plans come together for 2012, we plan to have a new car, a new look to the design of the graphics and a better chance to run for the Championship at Florence Speedway where Jesse ended up in the top 5 for 2011.

Thanks again everyone! See you in the Spring of 2012.

Sept 18 2011    The regular season has come to a close for Jesse and the # 33 Outlaw Racing Team. The team had a strong night going with a run in the Qualifying heat from 6th to 3rd, giving Jesse a 7th place starting position alongside Josh Williams, the current point leader heading into this last race.

Feature got off to a good start , car looked fast and on the clock, 2nd fastest in the field next to feature winner Scott James. About 15 laps into the race, Jesse dropped out with a broken gear in the rear end ending the season on a sour note.

As the team reflected on the season, the second half of the summer, Jesse was more than competitive in the car, we had a number of top 5 finished, a heat win and Jesse was enjoying the racing. If you look at the bad luck the team suffered with a broken frame part one night, (did not finish), a broken oil pan one night( did not finish) ignition problems one night( did not finish) and a broken rear end on the last night. With all of that misfortune Jesse still entered into the last night of the season in second place for the Championship only 16th points out of first place. Final points are not in but we will end up most likely in third place.

As we look to 2012, Jesse if filled with excitement for the new season, planning a brand new race car, New Tee Shirts and Die cast for the fans and a new sponsor to be named next month.

Stay tuned to the web page throughout the winter to keep up to speed with our progress. As the season closes, a special "Thanks" to our sponsors, J Palmer Construction,I-75 South Dodge, Debbie and Turfway Bar and Grill as well as Bicycle Playing Cards. We hope the will all be back on the car for 2012. Bicycle will be back with a bigger program for 2012. I would also like to thank the "Fans for their support of the season( we have a strong cheering section each week) and my sister Linda for shooting a lot of the photos you see on the web page. Most of all a special thanks to the crew Troy, Tom, Mark, Joe and owner Joe Lay for all of the work to make this a good year.

Hope to see you in October for the Fall Classic, if the weather holds out.

The Team would like to thank Carrie Woodard of S2NWebsites.com for the great job in providing a super web page and quick updates on a weekly basis.

Aug 27 2011    Saturday night for the Second Fan Appreciation night proved to be the nicest evening all year for Racing, great temperatures, clear sky and good track conditions. The evening started off great as Jesse won the heat race giving him a second row starting position behind current points leader Josh Williams. With only four points between Jesse and Josh, this night was critical with only one race remaining in the season for points. After the heat race Jesse signed autographs for the fans in the infield. Over the course of 2 fan appreciation nights Jesse has signed over 500 autograph cards. By far one of the most popular Late Model drivers at the track.

The feature started on a bad note with Jesse running high on the start and getting hit by the # 78 car causing a flat left rear tire. The pit crew did a great job changing the tire and getting Jesse out to start the race without losing a lap. The bad news is he was now starting from 22nd spot. Through out the feature Jesse used both the high and low grooves to work his way through traffic. He missed several racing incidents and was able to bring the # 33 Outlaw Racing Dodge home in 6th place. This finish coupled with less passing points than Josh Williams , now puts the team 16 points behind Josh for the Track Championship. All will be decided on the double points night on September 17th. We will see you then as we will not be competing at Eldora.

August 13 2011    Finish :DNS Did not start Tough weekend for the North South 100. The team battled the weather with a 90 minute rain delay, 2 broken shocks, and did not qualify to start the $ 50,000 to win event. The broken shocks, one in the heat race caused a 9th place finish and the second broken shock in the "B" main, did not allow Jesse to transfer into the Feature event. With show up points for both Josh Williams and Jesse, he is still 4 points behind Josh for the points championship. Racing resumes on August 27th with Fan Appreciation night.

August 6 2011    Saturday night August 6th was Bicyclecards.com night at the races for USPC employees. A number of my co- workers made to the track to enjoy the races. The track also had a number of great door prizes to give out.

The action on the track was great considering the last 3 weeks of frustration the team endured with a cracked oil pan, broken cross member frame, ignition troubles and this week JUST GREAT RACING!

Jesse started 4th in the qualifying heat # 2. Off to a fast start he worked his way up to second and was hot on the tail of leader Robby Hensly, he just couldn't make the pass. After a number of attempts he settled into second only to have the # 23 car take over second as he had used his tires up attempting to make the pass for first place. Still a solid third place finish putting him in the feature event.

The line up put Jesse in the fifth starting position and Josh Williams who is currently leading the Late Model point standings in 3rd.

The feature was a great show. Jesse's car handled good in both the low and high groove as he worked his way to the front. He had made his way to second and on 2 attempts he almost made the pass for the lead only to fall back into second. Lap after lap he dogged the leader John Gill but after 30 hard laps of racing settled for second place. The feature finish had the team pick up one point un-officially on Josh Williams for the point lead, but we are still in second place heading into this weeks North South 100, paying $50,000 to win! Practice on Thursday, qualifying on Friday and the races on Saturday, August 13th. See you at the Races!
July 30 2011    The last two weeks for Outlaw Racing and Jesse James Lay have proven what a team sport Auto Racing really is. As the team continued to get the car better each week, Jesse scored his first heat race win on July 23rd. Driving into the pits the team realized the front suspension was bad. Upon further inspection they realized the car had broken the "cross member" in the front end. In an effort not to loose points, the team loaded the car in the trailer and back to the shop to weld the frame piece back in place. The car was repaired in time and Jesse was able to start the feature. An electrical problem caused Jesse to leave the race early.

This week was just as trying for the team. Fighting for the top spot in the standings, every lap is important. From the start of practice the car continued to suffer from an electrical miss in the engine. Replacing part after part the team never gave up trying to correct the problem. Finally after a last place finish in the heat race, they solved the problem before the start of the main event.

Starting from the 21st position Jesse would have to drive the wheels off of the car to help his chances in the points battle and he did just that. By lap ten he had moved from 21st to 11th place. Continuing on the move, more bad news, contact with another car caused the left rear tire to go flat. Not giving up the, the team changed the tire in the pits sent him back out to the tail of the line up. Lap after lap going high and low on the track Jesse continued to make up ground on the leaders. As the race came to the final three laps Jesse was able to pass 3 more cars for a 7th place finish. The finish helped him to hold on to second place in the points standings and 5 points out of first place. I would like to praise the entire crew of Troy Perry, Tom Richard, Mark Cradler and Joe Gibson along with countless competitors in the pits who helped us to make two terrible weeks of bad luck into a Heat Win, a top ten finish in the Feature and move to second place in the points. Last night also pointed out the respect other drivers have for Jesse as Steve Landrum, Gary Engle and Jeff Alsip were all willing to allow Jesse to drive their cars, had we not fixed the engine problem. Thanks to each of them for the gesture of sportsmanship!.

Next week is Bicyclecards.com night where we will have employees from US Playing Cards at the races and a number of great door prizes. This is also the last race before the North South 100 and Jesse's last chance to take the point lead guaranteeing him a spot in the $50,000 to Win race. See you next Saturday and check out all of the photos and videos from the last two weeks of action.

July 29 2011    Jesse Lay and the team prepare for Saturday Nights race after two solid performances during the month of July.

On July 16th Jesse started 8th in the qualifying heat and finished 4th to start 5th in the main event. Running a solid race, Jesse held his position in the closing laps to finish 4th. Another top 5 finish.

On July 23rd for the North South Tune up, we had to qualify for the event. Jesse turned a lap of 17.05 to end up 7th out of the 34 cars taking times. Jesse went on to his first heat race win of the season and started on the front row for the feature event. After running 3rd and 4th for 10 laps, the car developed electrical problems and Jesse pulled out 23 to make sure the engine was not damaged as we move towards the end of the season.

With just two races to go before the North South 100, Jesse is currently in 4th place in the season Late Model point standings. Current rumors about competitors being disqualified may change the standings before the big $50,000 to win event. Stay tuned.

August 6th will be Bicyclecards.com night at the races. In addition to employees being at the track there will be a number of fan door prizes provided by Bicycle. See you for all the fun and look for the Fan Club in turn 2. Check out the new photos and the links to Youtube.

June 25 2011    Saturday Night was a great night at Florence Speedway. 49 Modified's on hand and 3 heats for the Late Models. Jesse started 6th in the qualifying heat and finished 5th to give him enough passing points to start 14th in the main event.

For the feature there was a great show up front for the win between Audie McWilliams, Jerry Rice (eventual winner) and Duane Chamberlin. Jesse had a solid run starting 14th and working his way up to 8th. The car was working great on the high side in turns 1 and 2. Jesse avoided two major crashes on track and was pleased with the finish knowing the team is headed in the right direction on adjustments to make it faster.

Highlights are available on You Tube. The team will be taking the next two weeks off as Florence Speedway is closed so we will be back in action on July 16th.

June 1 2011    Great news! We have added video from the weekly races. The video clips shot with the "GO PRO" in-car camera and can be viewed on YouTube. View our videos in our Photo / Video Gallery!

May 30 2011    After a disappointing run last week due to a crack in the oil pan that put the Outlaw Racing # 33 of Jesse Lay out of competition, the team came back strong this week. In Qualifying Heat # 3 Jesse started fourth. For the 10 pay event he continued to challenge for 2nd place with the # 9 car. Eventually making some light contact, Jesse ripped the right rear quarter panel of the car and created a rub on his tire. While competitive he had to settle for a finish of 3rd, giving him a 8th place start in the feature event.

For the Feature event Jesse continued to gain momentum on the longer green flag runs. At one point he was on of the fastest cars at the bottom of the track, as most of the competitors had moved to the top of the track for traction.

The car remained consistently quick throughout the feature showing good response to the changes made by Jesse and the crew before the feature event.

In the closing laps Jesse challenged Josh Williams for 5th place and finally steeled in to finish 6th. This finish pushed Jesse back up to 5th place in the Late Model points standings.

Next week will be the 25th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial Race paying $10,000 to WIN!. See you at the races.

May 7 2011    Outlaw racing and driver Jesse James Lay enjoyed a great night at Florence Speedway on May 7th. With all of the rain in the area, it took track officials some time to run the track in for the evening events. Jesse had a good draw for position in the qualifying heat to start fourth. The track was fast but only one grove of racing for most of the night. Jesse fell in line during the heat and managed a late race pass to finish 2nd in the heat. The crew did a lot of work to remove the mud from the car after the race.(See photos). The second place finish would give Jesse a 4th place start in the Feature event. The track conditions with lots of soft spots, water and slippery conditions, made for an exciting race. The action was extremely fast and numerous accidents narrowed the field down by race end. As the closing laps completed Jesse made a bold move in turn three to pass the # 53 car for position. Once more incident would place Jesse up to second place on the last two laps. On the last lap Jason Jamison made a move high that allowed Jesse to pull close to take look at the win, but Jason with more speed off the high side the track managed to cross the line ahead of Jesse. Jesse's second place finish jumped him to 4th in points, only one point out of third. The team felt lucky to complete the race with no major damage and a strong run by Jesse was exactly what the team and our fans needed to build confidence as the season continues next week at Florence.

April 2011    After several weeks of rain the team was finally able to hit the track at Florence for a regular night of racing. With a field of 24 late models on hand, Jesse once again pulled a bad draw and had to start 9th (last) in the second Qualifying heat. With a change in the car set made over the past couple of weeks the team worked to adjust for this weeks track conditions. Jesse make a quick run towards the front at the start of the heat race passing several cars in the first 2 laps of the 10 lap race. As the race progressed, Jesse settled in and set a pace to save tires and let him move to a 5th place finish. The finish would give him an 11th place start for the main event. Once again the team made adjustments to the car to compensate for the changing track conditions. Starting out in the main event Jesse make some quick moves in the early laps to gain a couple of spots before a number of caution flags came out, stopping the forward progress he showed in the early going. As the race continued under green flag conditions Jesse was again able to move forward. An incident late in the race and several run in's with ruts in the track, pushed Jesse to the rear of the field. With just a few laps remaining he made once last charge to end of the race and captured his second top 10 finish of the year out of 3 races. The 9th place finish jumped him up in Late Model Point Standings from 14th the previous week to 7th place this week.

The team will be back in action this Saturday at the normal starting time at Florence Speedway. Check out the April photos for action from this week's race.

March 19, 2011    March 19th marked the opening of the 2011 season for the Outlay racing # 33 and Jesse James Lay. The Spring 50 was held at Florence Speedway as the first major event of the new season. The race usually hosts over 50 + late Models and due to weather and other races only drew a field of 28+.

Jesse qualified solid for a 5 place start in the qualifying heat. Halfway through the race he broke a spring mount on the left front and slowed his progress to the front. He wound up 5th and would 15th in the main event that pays $ 5,000 to win.

The track was tacky and fast with a full moon overhead "usually means wildness in racing". And there was all of that and more. A number of major crashes during the first half of the race cut the field of cars from 24 down to 14. As Jesse continued to fight the rough track and traffic, he made progress on the field. With the last two cautions, he was in position to fight back for a 6th place finish in the feature. Most important the car was in one piece, still rolling and the engine was running, most competitors were not able to say that. Also missing from the nights activities were an number of the tracks regular drivers. Most of them will use next weekends practice day to tune up while the Outlaw Racing Team will take the weekend off. Once again welcome to our new sponsors and their first race without team, Turf way Bar and Grill, I-75 South Chrysler, Jeep Doge and regular sponsors J Palmer Construction, Bicycle Playing Cards and Joe Lay and Sons Plumbing. This was a solid start to the season. We will have photos for all of our sponsors once we get the right shot of the car. Thanks again for your support in 2011 and check out the updated photos for the Spring 50 on the photo page.
